When Luke Darcy first visited Bali at 18, wellness wasn’t on his mind. What captured him was the island’s warmth—its people, beaches, and strong sense of community. Over time, that love for Bali grew into something much deeper.
From AFL to Mindfulness
A former AFL star with the Western Bulldogs, Luke first tried meditation to improve his performance on the field. He later paused the practice, but his wife Bec—a yoga and meditation teacher—encouraged him to return to it.
His true awakening came during a trip to Rishikesh, India, while working at the Commonwealth Games. There, by the Ganges River, he discovered Ayurvedic healing. The experience was transformative and left him feeling renewed.
Creating Sukhavati in Bali

Inspired by his journey, Luke partnered with Geoffrey Thomas, whom he met in India. Together, they found a serene property in Mengwi, near Canggu. This became Sukhavati—a retreat blending traditional Ayurvedic healing with modern comfort.
Here, guests receive personalized treatments from Ayurvedic doctors, enjoy nourishing vegetarian meals, and can join yoga or meditation sessions. Everything is optional, whether you’re seeking deep healing or simply a relaxing massage.
The retreat draws a diverse community, from professional athletes to visitors from across the world, all seeking rest, healing, and balance.
Family and Community at the Heart
Luke’s children often visit Bali and have absorbed the island’s community values. This spirit is reflected in Sukhavati’s philosophy “family first, community-centered, and rooted in the gift of time.”
