Novotel Jakarta Cikini Marks World Ocean Day with Beach Cleanup and Sustainability Initiatives

JAKARTA, June 2025 – In celebration of World Ocean Day, Novotel Jakarta Cikini launched a series of impactful activities focused on marine preservation and environmental education. The initiative began with a beach cleanup held on June 1, 2025, at Marunda Beach, North Jakarta. The event was organized in collaboration with Novotel teams across Jakarta, Tangerang, and Bogor, alongside Marine Buddies and WWF-Indonesia.

Hotel team members, Marine Buddies volunteers, and local community participants joined forces in a unified mission to combat ocean pollution and raise awareness of marine conservation. Together, the volunteers successfully collected 289 kilograms of waste along the shoreline—contributing to the restoration of the coastal environment and inspiring tangible community action.

Corporate Ocean Night: Creativity Meets Sustainability

Carrying forward the spirit of sustainability, Novotel Jakarta Cikini hosted a follow-up event titled “Corporate Ocean Night” at the hotel. This corporate gathering invited key bookers and business partners to join a creative upcycling workshop led by RUE, where participants crafted accessories using discarded plastic bottles. The workshop aimed to promote recycling awareness and inspire innovative ways to reduce plastic waste in everyday life.

said Riganda Togatorop, General Manager of Novotel Jakarta Cikini.

Leading by Example: Sustainability in Action

As part of Perumda Pembangunan Sarana Jaya (PSJ)—which is currently transforming towards an ESG-driven business model—Novotel Jakarta Cikini has implemented several sustainable practices, including:

  • A “No Single Use Plastic” policy,

  • Replacing plastic bottled water with reusable glass bottles,

  • Switching to eco-friendly food packaging made from biodegradable cardboard,

  • And currently pursuing the prestigious Green Key Certification, an international standard for sustainable hotel operations.

A Global Movement for Ocean Preservation

These World Ocean Day initiatives align with the global Novotel Ocean program—a science-based sustainability campaign in partnership with WWF. The program drives more than 580 Novotel hotels worldwide to take climate action and protect oceans through four main pillars:

  1. Reducing resource consumption,

  2. Promoting sustainable food,

  3. Educating communities, and

  4. Supporting marine research.

Novotel Jakarta Cikini’s dedication to this cause exemplifies its ongoing efforts to create meaningful, lasting environmental impact, both locally and globally.
